Details
The Safe and Sound Protocol is a practical application of Polyvagal Theory, designed to reduce sound sensitivities and improve auditory processing, behavioral state regulation, and social engagement behaviors. The SSP is delivered through specially-filter music that tones the middle ear muscle and activates the cranial nerves, thereby “waking up” your vagus nerve.
In this hybrid therapeutic program, youth will meet one time per week for one hour at the center (420 2nd Avenue in Pelham, NY) and engage in 10-20 minutes of listening and co-regulation with a parent/caregiver at home to move through the 5 hour safe and sound protocol.

When and Where?
Parent/ Caregiver Orientation: 4/23 from 5:45p-6:45p (virtually)
Youth Sessions (In-Person) Tuesdays from 4:00p-5:00: 4/25, 5/2, 5/9, 5/16, 5/23, 5/30, 6/6
Each in-person listening session will include:
- Group connecting activities
- Regulating activities for the nervous system
- Integrative somatic movement
- Therapeutic Listening Session (approximately 30 minutes)
Additionally, participants will complete approximately 10-20-minutes of at-home listening each week between the in-person sessions with the co-regulation of a caregiver. Guidance will be provided on how to structure at-home sessions and on-demand support is provided to monitor progress and troubleshoot and issues that arise.
What do I need?
- Each participant needs over-the-ear (circumaural) headphones because they allow for an immersive sound experience (please bring to each session)
- On-ear headphones and earbuds are not recommended
- Avoid noise-canceling headphones (unless noise-canceling can be turned off)
- Avoid headphones with a bass boosting feature, or turn it off.
- Bluetooth headphones are approved as long as the distance between the headphones and the device is kept to a minimum so as to not disrupt the music.
- Each participant will be invited to install the free SSP app on their personal phone or tablet for the duration of the group. (please send youth with a listening device. Wifi access will be provided)
- Additionally your provider will work with you to coordinate "listening plan activities" that are regulating for your nervous system for the listening sessions at-home. This can include things like arts and crafts, puzzles, kinetic sand, stretching, etc. A list of suitable activities and materials will be sent prior to the start of the program and a variety of choices of activities will be offered at the center. Your child is also able to bring non-electronic sensory toys, art materials, etc to the sessions that they particularly enjoy.
How Much?
The cost for the therapeutic program is $450. This includes the 7 sessions, parent orientation, access to the SSP program for the 6 weeks, intake review, and on-demand support and monitoring over the course of intervention. Each group is limited to 4 participants.
A payment plan is available in 2 installments. Reach out if needed.
Additional implementation models are available for individuals (hybrid and fully facilitated) if this schedule isn’t convenient for you. Learn more about pricing https://www.mbodiedwisdom.com/safeandsound and please email info@mbodiedwisdom.com to inquire about other program options.
